"It Is What It Is...But It Doesn't Have To Be That Way." by Janyata Frazier March 31, 2012 Free! 51643 words Read a sample
She says what you're thinking--and if you weren't thinking it, you should have been. "It Is What It Is..." is another self-help motivational book, but this one isn't stuffy, it's light and breezy, and it's sure to make you rethink how you see yourself, pick your friends, set your goals and handle disappointment.
Author bio:
“It is what it is, but it doesn’t have to be that way.” That’s her motto, and it’s also the title of her book. Janyata Frazier has authored a book that couples her charm and wit while presenting motivationally inspired principles for shaping and developing one’s character. Growing up the daughter of entrepreneur parents, while other kids were reading Nancy Drew novels, James and Jeanette had their daughter reading motivational speakers such as Napoleon Hill, Zig Ziggler, and Earl Nightingale. Jan was enamored with the stories that these speakers would tell, but the bottom line would always be the same: “You are in control of you;” “What you think you are, you are;” and “Dream plus action equals success.” Being a product of that entrepreneurial home, it wasn’t a question of if Jan would create her own business; the real question was what will her business be? To the surprise of her parents, although she did get her real estate license, Jan didn’t stick with the family business of real estate; rather, she became one of the first certified teachers in her family. Teaching led her to Kobe, Japan where she taught English for two years at a Japanese high school, but along with it she brought her entrepreneurial spirit. Recognizing the absence of quality black hair care professionals in her area, Jan, along with her friend opened up a hair salon in her apartment. The small business simply called “My Girl’s Place,” offered hair services, dinner, and a movie for $75! Not knowing how to say no to a challenge, Jan once accepted the task of giving a client layers although she’d never even cut bangs before. While in Japan, Jan captivated the attention and amusement of friends stateside by sending write ups of her experiences in Japan in a series entitled “There’s a Chocolate Chip in the Noodles.” Although the speed of life prevented Jan from completing the book, she didn’t abandon her desire to create a book based upon her personal experiences. When necessity created a need, Jan put her vision on paper and penned her first book “It Is What It Is, But It Doesn’t Have To Be That Way.” Not willing to let another summer pass without her reaching her goal of completing her book, Jan went to Raleigh, North Carolina and spent her days writing and watching TV while staying with her eldest brother, Tony. In late 2009, Jan opened her first corporation by launching Top Shelf Books Publishing House, LLC. Jan’s book will be self published and released in 2010. She’s currently in the planning stages of creating a second book; this one is targeted at teens. “There’s a real need for it, I talk to my students every day, I’m sure they can benefit from a book written directly to and for them.” Jan, like many of her students, could have benefited from more interesting, yet, instructional reading selections that were targeted to teens. A native of Decatur, Georgia , Jan attended Southwest DeKalb High School before she became a Literature major at Agnes Scott College also in Decatur . While at Agnes Scott, Frazier received training as a prejudice reduction workshop leader. Along with her peers, Jan led workshops to help train students, faculty and staff members along with the school’s administration. Frazier currently teaches Creative Writing and various English courses at Cedar Grove High School in Ellenwood, Georgia.

PERSONAL ATTRACTION: Just look around at current culture and you see people increasingly keen to be popular, to be included in the pack, to make a face for themselves, to be somebody. 100 Things You Can Do, To Change Your Life by Greg Vanden Berge 100 Things You Can Do, To Change Your Life by Greg Vanden Berge May 06, 2011 $4.99 8192 words Sample 10%
Have you ever wanted to do something, but were afraid to try? Have you ever wondered why someone else has accomplished something, but you never have? Are you having problems with your marriage, dealing with divorce, children, parents, death, life, your job, school, etc.? Well this book isn't going to answer all of your questions, but it will provide you with plenty of inspiration.
Author bio:
If there's one thing I can say about myself, it's that I will never stop learning. I will never stop asking questions or looking for answers that make rational sense. I was born and raised in Southern California and was the product of a dysfunctional family. That might sound a little harsh, unless it's put into perspective. Most of us come from dysfunctional families, we just talk about the bad ones, to make ours look a little better. I probably wasn't much different than most children, growing up in the 1960’s. I had an older brother and a younger sister and we lived, in a single story home, next to a river bed. If I wasn't at school, playing at a playground or playing sports with my friends, I was either walking my dog or riding my bike, down the river bed. These truly were some of the most memorable times, of my childhood and I had a lot of fun. It wasn't long before I started to put some of the pieces, of the puzzle together and realized that some of the things, I was taught, weren't true. Then I realized that most of the adults I knew, didn't always know what they were talking about, either. Around the time I was 15 years old, I realized the world of maybes, possibly and I think. I would ask someone a question and they would respond with,” I think this is what happened or even I know for a fact, it could have happened, “ but that was about it. This is when I finally accepted the fact, that if someone doesn't know what they're talking about, they will provide us with a perception, of their version, of the possibility, of something that could have happened, but might not have. By the age of 20, I realized that some of the questions I was asking weren't ever going to be answered, rationally. If I wanted to find the truth, I would need to find it, for myself. Eventually, I went to work, building homes with my father and became a contractor, at the age of 25. I didn't know it at the time, but I was about to receive an education, on life, that you couldn't get, in school. I met some of the most fascinating characters, with some of the most fascinating stories and life’s lessons, you could imagine. I learned a lot from these people about life and hope I never forget them. You can also learn a lot, from people around you, simply by keeping your mouth closed and your ears and eyes open. It wasn't long before I was married and the father of three children. We did most of the things other families, in our community did and were involved in a wide variety of activities. The P.T.A., children's classrooms, Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts and eventually Boy Scouts. However, like all good things, it didn't seem to last and it wasn't long, before my first marriage was over and along with it, one of the biggest mistakes, I ever made. Within a few years after my divorce, I started to realize that there was more to life than working as a contractor. I no longer felt the urge to build or repair other people's homes and wanted to do more. I wanted to impact people's lives and make an extraordinary contribution to humanity. That's when I started building websites, making videos for Youtube and writing. I wanted to share my knowledge with everyone, including people who haven't even been born yet. I have currently written over 30 books and have become an international best-selling author. I'm remarried to a spectacular woman and still live in Southern California. My goal is to get people to start thinking about things they believe and do something about it. Just because someone tells you or creates an illusion that they're telling you the truth, doesn't mean, they really are. Think about it. Greg is also the best selling international author of more than 30 books.

Author bio:
Having grown up in more humble circumstances, I was anxious to be successful in all areas of my adult life, especially the financial realm. I thought success would come easily, and that I was smart enough, talented enough, good looking enough, and charming enough that with only a little effort and lots of belief I would be able to move mountains. It didn’t work. While working a second job I was introduced to a personal development and mentorship group focused on creating success. I caught fire with wanting to learn about success, leadership, wealth creation, and personal development. I was excited to learn what I was doing wrong and how I could be successful. For several years I spent money on tapes, books, seminars, and presentations. I read websites, e-zines, newsletters, and emails. I got books and audio books from the library. I digested whatever I could get my hands on. I availed myself of what the gurus had to offer and was motivated to implement it. That didn’t work either. Rather than success untold, I had debt untold. Rather than happiness, I had frustration. I didn’t reach the success I was told I should have been able to and consequently I was frustrated and wondered what was wrong with me – after all, it couldn’t be the experts who were wrong. While I was seeking answers as to how I could be successful, I came across an idea that described how passion and financial compensation are tied together. The thought was that if you find your passion and exploit it, or share it, with the world, you will be making such a unique contribution to the world that it can’t help but compensate you financially for doing so. Wow! What a great thought! I immediately wanted to encourage others to share their passion with the world and help them achieve the success I also so badly sought. I had the idea to interview 21 ordinary millionaires to learn how they found their passion and thereby found their success. I wanted to use millionaires who are not necessarily well known to demonstrate that you don’t have to be a celebrity or athlete to live your passion and that success is closer than we think. One little problem with my grand idea. On the third interview I found there wasn’t a direct correlation between passion and success. But now I know the truth about success and I want you to know it, too. I also finally learned I'm anything but smart, talented, good looking, or charming...

As a Motivational Coach and Speaker, my goal is “to empower people move to the next level of success in their lives.” Many people have asked for more information about me and why I am qualified to motivate others. So here’s a little bit about me and how I got here. It all started back in Fresno, CA where I was born and raised. As a child I knew I had a calling to help people be happier and live better lives. I knew this because I was keenly observant of people. I observed people and how they lived their lives. At age 10 a friend’s family invited me to a musical show called “Up With People!” This show had a major impact on me, and brought up my passion to help people be happier. Although my parents didn’t care about my grades, I received all A’s in school except I always failed Oral English. I couldn’t get up in front of the class and speak. What kept me going in school was my desire for a career in the helping/teaching profession, so I could help others become more successful. The females in my family were discouraged from going to college, so higher education became my way of rebelling. I earned my B.A. in Education from CSU Fresno. During college I had some wonderful professors who took me under their wing and encouraged me to speak in class. I learned that I enjoyed teaching and actually had a gift that had previously been repressed. I went on to get my teaching credential and taught Jr. and Sr. High School for 7 years. I went from a shy little girl who couldn’t speak in front of the class to a big girl who couldn’t STOP speaking in front of the class! Teaching adolescents was an amazing experience! I found that I wanted to work with them more one-on-one, so I went back to college to become a counselor. I received my M.S. in Counseling/Psychology from the University of Miami and became licensed as a Marriage & Family Therapist. Initially I set out to get a wide range of experience. I worked in a children’s psych hospital in dual diagnosis, managed a residential treatment program for severely emotionally disturbed teenage girls, did biofeedback therapy for a pain management center, and worked in social services in the areas of foster care, child abuse and family reunification. Once I became licensed I worked in a private counseling practice for 7 years. I specialized in relationship counseling. During this time I realized that coaching, writing and teaching were what I really loved to do, so I started writing books for healthcare professionals and teaching continuing education courses. I became particularly interested in the field of motivation and coaching and worked on this as a specialty. I founded GROW Training Institute, Inc. which is a coach training organization, and became a Certified Professional Coach. I then coached myself through my Doctoral Program and earned my Ph.D. in Health Science through a correspondence program. I can now freely pursue my true passions of writing, speaking, coaching and consulting! I have published 26 books and am working on my next one now. Many people have asked me what has most motivated me during my life? I believe that we all have internal motivation when we find our gift. My strong desire to help people become higher functioning, happier and more successful must have initially come from my internal desire to grow, learn, and improve my life and the world around me. It also came from my deep appreciation for my mentors and teachers who helped me overcome my anxieties and fears about success. It came from reading books by great self help/spiritual authors such as Wayne Dyer, Gary Zukav, Louise Hay, Marianne Williamson, Barbara DeAngelis and Tony Robbins. I have learned that it is fear that stops us most. We sabotage our own success due to our own fear of our own light. I want to help others overcome their obstacles and shine their light brightly, just as my mentors did for me. I now do business, relationship and life coaching. As a Business Coach, I conduct trainings for businesses, entrepreneurs, corporations and organizations all over the world. I do practice building consulting for mental health and medical providers. As a relationship coach I help people stop sabotaging themselves and create their ideal relationships. I work by telephone, Internet and face-to-face. If you are interested in receiving coaching or need a motivational speaker, please contact me! I wish you much success. Mark “Happy” LaVerdiere was born in the small town of Orillia Ontario, and found a love for aviation at a young age. His father owned a Cessna and Happy flew regularly with him. It was at this young age that Happy knew he wanted to be a world-class fighter pilot and a Snowbird. An avid hockey player and natural athlete, the drive to compete and set goals became a part of everyday life since being a teenager. After high school Happy attended Confederation College in Thunder Bay, Ontario and graduated from the Aviation Flight Management Program at the top of his class. During his time at college, Happy was selected to represent Ontario in a national amateur piloting competition (Webster Competition) and placed third in Canada at the age of 19. Following graduation Happy enrolled in the Canadian Forces as a pilot and achieved his jet wings in 1995. After jet wings graduation in 1995 Happy served his first tour as a flight instructor on the Tutor jet, the same jet he flies now as a Snowbird pilot. In 1999 he was selected for fighter pilot training, where through hard work and dedication again graduated among the top in his class, and served as a CF-18 Hornet fighter pilot in Cold Lake, Alberta until he was selected to the Snowbird team in the fall of 2006. During his time as a fighter pilot, Happy served in both Europe and throughout North America following the events of Sept 11th, 2001. Happy has had the honour to be a member of the Canadian Snowbirds for 4 years (2007-2010), flying in the number 8 position-opposing and lead solo. The experience Happy has gained in the role as a Canadian ambassador, both in the aggressive solo maneuvers that he flew on a daily basis and also his time spent doing various media events (school and hospital visits), will serve him well as he pursues his next goal of becoming world champion.  Happy now lives in Barrie, Ontario, with his wife Carol and their twin children Kaden and Quinlan.

Author bio:
My name is Baje Fletcher (Beige like the color). Some would say I got my drive from the islands and my hustle from New York. I was born in Brooklyn in 84, but was raised in Jamaica. I got back to the states when I was 14. We never had much growing up, Brooklyn was rough and in Jamaica everyone had to contribute to make ends meet. I lived most of my adult life in the Florida. I’m the last child of ten (six boys and four girls). My father is still living, my mother passed away when I was 19- breast cancer. I have two sisters who were also affected by the disease. Because their illness hit so close to home, I’m open to donating to, or walking for the breast cancer society and willing to volunteer my time to those still in the fight. I’ve been the entertainment industry since I was 18 (at first mostly modeling, then acting). There wasn’t much work in Orlando (Mickey Mouse town is what residents call it) so I commuted to Miami…a lot. I was 18 when I received my first invite to a fashion show, when I attended I was scouted by the head talent co-coordinator. She liked my look and welcomed me to be a part of her troop. She wasn’t paying a cent but I recognized the opportunity to network and so I took her up on the offer. At each of her shows I made it my duty to network with 3 people (whether they were photographers, model agents or other models). From then on it snow boarded, I began going on castings with other models and shooting with photographers to build my portfolio. Over my career span I’ve done print, fashion shows, award shows, commercials, movies, TV shows, reality shows and over 30 music videos. The first major one was Trick Daddy and Twister (Let’s Go). A friend of mine heard about it on the radio and drove me to the set. When we got there he pushed me to the front, and before you know it I blended in like I belonged there. Once again I wasn’t getting paid but I recognized the opportunity to network. There were so many people on set so I didn’t even see myself in the final cut of the video. However, I networked. I met an agent that booked me on paid videos from that day on. Being in the industry exposed me to a side of life that most never get to see. Invites to red carpet events, mansion parties, swingers parties, best seats at the games, free alcohol, easy access to drugs, and the chance to mingle with CEOs, millionaires and celebrities on a regular basis… some of whom I now call friends. As women, it’s natural for us to me drawn to the glitz and glamour; it’s not uncommon that we want to be pampered, wine and dined, go on shopping sprees, travel the world and part take in the most exclusive events. If you’re in the right place, at the right time it is possible, but often comes with a cost: SEX. It’s easy to fall into that trap. I’ve seen many beautiful and talented women come to Miami and Los Angeles with high hopes of becoming successful or getting matched up with a successful mate but way too often they get caught up in the hype, in sex, drugs and excessive alcohol. Soon they lose sight of their GOALs and themselves. Before you know it, most casting directors, producers and power players in the industry have had their way with them. Over the years I’ve perfected the skill of getting what I want, without having to use my body to get it. It isn’t always easy because as soon as a guy gives you the “hook up” on anything he’s expecting to cash-in. I had some help along the way from people like me. People who noticed my persistence, my drive to succeed; they recognized my hustle because they were hustlers themselves. I felt compelled to help other women also, so I bundled what I learned, shared short cuts I discovered and shared my experiences in a handy, dandy book that maps out how women can get ahead financially without falling into the sex trap. Frankly, I’m tired of ultimatums, and if I am, I know that other women are too. I’m tired of hearing phrases like: “We can do business together but it has to be pleasure also”, “I’d help you with that, but you’re going to have to take care of me”, I know too many women who gave themselves to guys way too early, only to find out that all the promises he made to her was just “game”…and of course after the lies cleared it was too late for her to get that part of her that she gave away. I heard too many stories of women dedicating their lives to men who really don’t care about them, their GOALs or their dreams, and women who put the needs of guys they barely know ahead of their own. I could have named my book a thousand other titles other than: A Gold Diggers Guide, but let’s overlook the taboo title for a moment and hear my message. Have a screening process: Believe you deserve the best and don’t settle. When you first meet a man, he’ll put his best foot forward, so just know that you’re meeting his representative, not him; so in the mean time, Don’t be too quick to open up: (your home, your heart or your legs). Never lose sight of your GOALs: Before a man comes in the picture work on you. Know who you are, what you want, what you deserve and set GOALs. When a man does come along, Remember that you are number one: You have needs so don’t be afraid to express them. If he truly cares about you then it wouldn’t be a problem for him to help you out (especially financially). Let him work for you: let him prove himself to you (that usually only happens in time). Learn from your mistakes: If you caught one that wasn’t willing to contribute, work and wait then he doesn’t deserve you anyway; So, Don’t be a slave to your conscience: throw that one back in. Let’s just put it this way: If we live in a world where it’s use or be used…I’m not going to be the one getting used.
