Introduction

Like most people who pick up a personal development book, you’ve probably already read everything there is to know about goal setting and achieving your dreams, but are you actually living it? There's a huge difference between theory and reality.

How in control do you feel of your life right now? Do you feel like you can make changes at will or are things "decided" for you?

For years I saw myself at the mercy of fate. If the game of life was roulette then I was the ball - tossed around by the whims of the Universe and landing somewhere totally out of my control.

Jobs, money, relationships... it all seemed so random.

I didn't believe I could consciously choose success for my life. I was working hard but I was just so frustrated, waiting for the answer to magically appear in a personal development book.

So, what's changed? Everything. Thanks to my ability to manifest what I want.

Man-i-fest [man-uh-fest] (thanks to Dictionary.com)

~ to make clear or evident to the eye or the understanding.

~ to prove; put beyond doubt or question.

Manifesting means making your dreams or goals come true in the real world. I've learnt how to direct my attention and now feel much more in control of my fate.

Can anyone do this? Yes.

Back to my roulette analogy

What if you were the roulette wheel and controlled where the ball landed? What if you were the hand that tossed the ball and spun the wheel?

Or what if you could choose every aspect of the game. What if you waited for the wheel to stop and then just chose where you wanted to be? Imagine yourself as a tiny person waiting patiently on the green felt of the gambling table. You walk around the wheel as it slows down, looking at all the options and then climb aboard when something appeals to you.

Imagine seeing life that way. All the choices are spread out before you and you have the luxury, discernment and ultimate decision on which way you take your life.

This time last year, I was living in my flat in London, very cold and fed up with living in one of the poorest areas in the city. I craved beaches, travel, adventure, creativity and professional success.

Fast forward one year, I spent six months travelling around luxury resorts being paid as a professional blogger, spent a lot of time with my husband, became a life coach and now live in one of the most beautiful cities in the world, five minutes from the beach in Newcastle, Australia.

Coincidence or deliberate creation?

Success doesn't happen by accident. There's quite a bit of work that goes into it. During my most magical manifesting year (which you're about to hear a lot about), I came up with more than 50 practical things that I did on a consistent weekly basis. Some of them were more metaphysical in nature, like visualisation and meditation but you’d be surprised how many little things you can do every day to make your dreams come true. Manifesting is much more practical than you think. Isn't that great?

I’ve used the techniques you're about to read about to manifest the perfect job, money when I needed it, my lovely husband, courses and opportunities at the right time and much more. In fact, in one year alone, I manifested more than £500,000 worth of opportunities, travel and personal development.

I used to work in the business consulting field and I got fed up of helping big corporations get even richer. Instead, I wanted to work with like-minded people who are positive and hopeful for a better life. It's much more rewarding helping people achieve inspiring goals. I knew that if I became a life coach, I could work with people who wanted something more for themselves and share what I’ve learnt in my life.

No matter where you’re starting from, or where you want to be—there’s really only a few steps you need to make to head in the right direction. I’m not saying the process is pure magic; it usually doesn’t happen instantly. You can just meditate on a goal and it will come true the next day.

However, the great news is that there are many actions you can take, big and small, which will draw a new reality into your life. This is inevitable, if you're willing to do the work. Are you?

What you can expect from me is total honesty about my successes, failures and mistakes. I’m not perfect and I don’t have all the answers. I’m no guru and I'm not smarter than you. I'm just a normal person who has learnt how to live a life on my own terms and I'm passionate that everyone can make the choice to do the same thing.

I hope you find inspiration in this magical little book, and please get in touch to tell me your crazy manifesting stories. Just when I think I've heard it all, you lovely people surprise me again. Keep in touch at www.DeniseDuffieldThomas.com or email me at denise@duffieldthomas.com.

To your dreams and success!

My Adventures in Manifesting

The last year and a half has been the luckiest and most amazing of my life so far. It also coincided with me experimenting with the Law of Attraction and other well-known personal development principles.

If you're not familiar with the Law of Attraction, or LoA for short - it's the universal truth that what you think about you'll receive. You get what you ask for, no matter what. Now, most of the time, we aren't aware of what we're asking for, because of all the negative thoughts and feelings that crowd our head. It's difficult to consciously attract success when you don't really believe that you're worth it.

Well, I decided to believe just that I was worthy of achieving my goals - no matter what. I decide to really go for it and ask the Universe for the most crazy and outlandish things - just to see what happened.

In one year alone, I achieved some almost unbelievable goals and manifested almost £500,000 (more than $700,000) worth of opportunities, travel, personal development seminars and activities that directly related to those goals.

I'm not telling you this to brag. In fact, for a while I was really embarrassed to tell people about my good fortune. At best, people told me I was "so lucky". At worst, they called me a "jammy bastard" or a "lucky bitch", which is a playful, rueful way of saying "I can't believe you did that!".

How do you create the belief? You can fake it, or you can just decide to have it!

Without a doubt, my very first recommendation if you want the Law of Attraction to work for you is that you must write down your goals. Creating a dream board (otherwise known as a vision board or treasure map) is even better. I'm going to show you how to do exactly that later in this book.

Let me give you some real life examples to show you how I did it. Here are the four best things I manifested from my dream list:

~ A free ticket to Shine, Ali Brown's event for women entrepreneurs in Vegas - approx $1000

~ A free place on Karen Knowler's 6 weeks to Raw Weight Loss programme - approx $199

~ A free place on Sandy Forster's Inspired Spirit Coaching programme - approx $4000

~ Six months free luxury travel to 12 countries around the world - approx $400,000 in value including €20,000 in cash.

So, am I a professional competition enterer? Do I spend my days applying for competitions and then winning a small proportion of them?

Nope. These are the only competitions I entered or in one case, my good luck wasn't from a competition at all. These are all things I had on my goal list or my dream board. They weren't random. I specifically wanted and asked for those results.

So, was it a complete coincidence or have I figured out how to manifest my goals at will?

There's much more to each story. Let's look at each one in-depth.

Free Motivational Seminar Ticket in Las Vegas

Background: Ali Brown, one of the internet marketing world's most inspirational entrepreneurs was holding a three day seminar for female entrepreneurs. The title was Shine - Live Your Good Fortune. I had a burning desire to be there.

The problem was, it was in Vegas (I was living in London) and I didn't have enough money to go. I wrote "Attend Ali Brown's Shine in Vegas" on my goal list and I put a picture of the seminar leaflet on my wall, so I saw Ali's face every day.

Here's what else I did:

~ I told everyone that I was going to be there and even thought about what to pack

~ I joined the Shine group on Facebook and watched all the marketing videos with excitement

~ Every day on my commute and before I went to sleep, I visualised being at the seminar

~ I got my business cards ready (something I had put off for ages)

~ I put the dates in my diary and declined invitations because "Sorry, I'm going to be in Vegas that weekend"

~ In my mind, I was going, so I continued to act "as if" I was for sure.

When Ali announced a video competition to give 5 free scholarship places, I knew that I would win one of them. I did my video and waited for the call to say I won. Um, it never came because I didn't win. What?!

But I felt so certain that I was going to be there!

The next week, I was talking to my coach about how I was doing all this manifestation but it hadn't happened yet. I said "I just have this strong feeling that I'm going to be there anyway".

There was silence. Then my coach said "I have a spare free ticket. I was going to give it to someone and they just declined. I didn't realise you wanted to go so badly. Would you like to take my extra ticket?"

Well, as you can imagine, my head almost blew off. If I hadn't continued talking to everyone about going to Shine, then my coach would never have known and the Universe wouldn't have been able to hook us up!

Long story short. I went to Vegas for Shine. I had an amazing time, met incredible entrepreneurs and learnt so much about business. I even got to fulfil a life-long dream and see Bette Midler in concert at Caesar's Palace!

Big lesson: never give up, believe in your dreams up until the last minute!

Free weight loss seminar with Karen Knowler

The goal: Make a new commitment to my weight loss. It was as simple as that. I knew that Karen Knowler was giving away a free place on her upcoming 6 week weight loss seminar, so I signed up for her free call.
